As Mayor Ray Baca signed over the title, to one of our old fire trucks, to El Presidente Estanislas Garcia there was a warming sense of compassion and appreciation between us and our neighbors to the south. State Legislative Funds have provided the Hurley Police Dept. with four new impressive, and much needed, police units. The second phase of the CDBG project on E Street, between 2nd Street and 5th Street is soon to begin. The $500,000 grant will address paving, curbs and gutters. Check out our park on A Street! We are proudly boasting a new mural on the swimming pool building designed and painted by Joe Wade of JW Art Gallery. Pool manager Heather Helton, her staff and students from Hurley Elementary all had their hands on paint brushes and what a magnificent job they did. The Hurley Pride Committee, in conjunction with the Town of Hurley, its staff, the Hurley Masonic Lodge and various residents, have been busy working at the Cemetery and painting playground equipment at the town parks. The HPC is holding a benefit Raffle for their Christmas Fund. The beautiful, Amish-style, handmade quilt is on display at the JW Art Gallery and tickets are currently available at the Gallery and Hurley Town Hall. The quilt will be displayed and $2 tickets will be available at the Hurley Pride Pantry during the 4th of July activities at Gough Park & A.I.R. Coffee in Bayard. All proceeds from the Pantry and sale of souvenirs go directly back to the community of Hurley. Anyone with a little free time on their hands and would like to volunteer to help us to help Hurley is encouraged and invited to look into what the HPC has to offer. If you have any questions regarding the Hurley Pride Committee, please call 537-2124. |
