Royce Marin Rein
Photographs taken in Arizona and New Mexico
were
once a
starting point for a painting. Now I
rely on memories of those places and recall the feelings of being there. Regardless of the subject matter, as a colorist my use of acrylics engages the close harmonies in value of color. Whether the hue and lightness are bright and full of spirit or subdued, color for me conveys a sense of the mystical light of morning or the gloaming at days end. I have come to eliminate the extraneous elements and paint in a stylized manner giving form and substance to the beauty of the southwest. Painting for me is a magical experience where images on the canvas unfold, transform, then become a graphic artistic composition. |
